Each year, the London Potters Annual Members Exhibition at Morley Gallery culminates in the presentation of the London Potters Prizes, a highlight of the association’s calendar and a celebration of excellence within the ceramic community. The awards recognise outstanding work across the membership, showcasing the creativity, skill, and diversity of both emerging makers and established ceramic artists.
A key feature of the prize‑giving is the involvement of invited external judges. These guests — often respected ceramic artists, educators, and curators — bring expertise and impartiality to the selection process, adding credibility and visibility to the awards. Their perspectives help spotlight work that demonstrates innovation, craftsmanship, and artistic vision.
The prizes span multiple categories, reflecting the breadth of contemporary ceramic practice. Typical awards include Best Functional Work, Best Sculptural Work, Surface Decoration, Innovation, and the much‑loved People’s Choice award. This range ensures that different approaches, techniques, and artistic voices are recognised and celebrated.
The People’s Choice award invites visitors to vote for their favourite piece during the exhibition, encouraging public engagement and drawing additional footfall to Morley Gallery. It is often one of the most anticipated categories, offering a direct connection between artists and audiences.
Winners are announced during the Private View, an event that brings together members, partners, supporters, and the wider ceramics community. The prize‑giving adds a sense of excitement and celebration to the opening night, marking the achievements of the selected artists.
Following the announcement, winning works receive enhanced visibility within the exhibition and across London Potters’ communication channels. They are highlighted on the association’s website and social media, and often appear in craft listings or publications such as Ceramic Review, offering valuable exposure for the artists involved.
