Path and Inspiration
Geometry and optical illusions are a constant fascination — I love experimenting with angular shapes and pushing the boundaries of clay to create architectural forms. I use different clay bodies to show the varied surfaces and textures. I like to see my wall pieces as paintings, creating compositions as framed pieces where the clay itself is the subject.Process and Practice
After years of slip casting and creating marbled effects, I have discovered that slab building is my preferred way of working. I begin by making models and maquettes from card and foam board, then cut shapes from clay slabs to construct my vessels. I am currently experimenting with staining the clay by drying it out and adding coloured stains or oxides. For my wall installations, I use both slab building and slip casting methods and create textures on the surfaces.
