Path and Inspiration
As an artist maker, I mainly use black clay to explore the boundaries that define the social, cultural, physical and spiritual spaces we occupy. Forms are influenced by both traditional ancestral hand building techniques and by contemporary minimal aesthetics.
Inspired by the colours and textures of nature, the focus is on tactility, on celebrating the feel of natural, unglazed fired clay.Process and Practice
The ceramic processes I use include coil building, slab building, and slip casting (in my own handmade moulds). I make functional and sculptural pieces that are usually left unglazed on the outside with some mark making with porcelain slip or mixed layered glazes. I make homeware and tableware under the name Naked Clay Ceramics.
