Path and Inspiration

From art at school to an access to art and design and then taking part in local Open Studios- I found clay and have been addicted ever since. I make a range of things from stoneware figurative sculpture, Raku fired pieces and some functional and decorative pieces. The British Museum and V&A collections have always inspired. I am a walker in countryside and coast and the natural world finds it's way onto and into the ceramics. I collaborate with Richard Ballantyne.

Process and Practice

Much of what I make starts as a wheelthrown pieces. I love the magic of working a lump of clay into a shape on the pottery wheel. I use slabs of clay to make large figures. The clay is impressed with leaves, flowers, indian woodblocks, old lace, doilies and formed in plaster casts to make the shape. I hand build smaller figures. I make my own glazes and enjoy how glazes are transformed in the kiln. I fire in an electric kiln. I also Raku fire.
