Path and Inspiration
Inspiration comes from wanting to create visual landscapes in 3D forms incorporating interconnecting shapes and layers, swirls, circles, gestural brush strokes and textures. I work with slips and oxides creating layers and surfaces using hessian, sponges hiding and then exposing shapes and textures. I invite the viewer to see what is there and what is hidden revealing perhaps even a story personal to them.Process and Practice
I work with stoneware black or white clays as I love how colour reacts differently on each type of clay. My forms are hand built using coiling or slab techniques which I then coat with a bade of homemade porcelain slip. I then build up layers of colour and texture intuitively but always with paper resist circles and swirls which curl around the form. The decorative slip palette is always decided on beforehand to ensure slip colours work together harmoniously.
