Path and Inspiration
I have a background in interiors which is where I fell in love with textures and paper, which shows in all my work. When moving to a degree in Applied Arts I started a love affair with porcelain. My work started with exploring form and fragility but now I make work as an act of catharsis, focusing on family, memory and personal identity.Process and Practice
The fragility of my body (I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome) and the damage it incurs through the process of making informs everything I do. I solely work in paper porcelain, pushing it to its limits, using scarring and texturing the clay instead of wedging. My work is usually thin and made quickly; often, from bag of clay to kiln in one day, as I am not able to predict when I can next be in the studio, due to my health and my children’s needs. I work out of a shared studio in Wood Green London.
