Path and Inspiration
Fay is a ceramic artist exploring themes of cultural identity, immigration, hybridity and belonging. Her work examines the fragmented experience of leaving home and reconstructing a sense of self in a new cultural environment. Each piece embodies multiple influences, reflecting the way identity is formed. She aims to create vessels that hold more than one identity at once - historical and contemporary, serious and playful, familiar and strange.Process and Practice
Fay purposefully mixes and contrasts various clay bodies, production methods and surface treatments to mimic the layered and sometimes incompatible nature of multicultural identities. Drawing inspiration from her Greek heritage, she re-imagines ancient Greek forms and everyday items to sculpt modern surreal pieces that are humorous, colourful and anthropomorphic.
