Path and Inspiration
Essex clay was the first clay I found. It was a treasure to be squished, pierced and moulded. I made a small orange pinch pot which I allowed to dry in the sunshine.I reconnected with clay to learn how to help people express themselves, initially during Occupational Therapy training and then later during training to become an Integrative Arts Psychotherapist.Clay found me again 8 years ago and has become a significant part of my life: a vehicle for expression and embodiment of self.Process and Practice
I hand build sculpture for placement outdoors and inside the home and make wheel thrown bowls and cups. I mix lively, gestural mark making with clean lines.I layer clay slips, oxides and glazes to create depth. I enjoy the process of carving away clay, revealing what is beneath. Allowing form to emerge.I mainly fire to stoneware using an electric kiln although some pieces are smoke, saggar or wood fired.
