Path and Inspiration
Inspired by nature’s endless movements and influences as diverse as Japanese aesthetics, Hungarian, and Norwegian culture, Ildiko designs and crafts contemporary ceramic vessels. The intertwining influences from East and West are reflected in the forms and surface of her pieces and is intended to generate emotions and self-reflection. Her practice extends beyond clay, embracing the arts of flower arranging and gardening, disciplines that continue to inform new layered artistic directions.Process and Practice
Ildiko works using hand-building techniques, often combining more than one type in the construction of a single vessel. Rooted in tradition yet deeply personal, her process incorporates Japanese hand-building methods such as kurinuki or tataki as well as coiling, pinching and slab building. Each piece is shaped intuitively, celebrating the tactile richness of stoneware clay. The vessels are sometimes single fired with or without glazes, emphasising the roughness and beauty of the clay itself.
