Path and Inspiration
While engaged in a career as an illustrator, I honed my ceramic skills. I enjoy glaze finishes that can be deliciously lustrous and glossy, or cool satin to the touch. A ceramic journey of visually stunning paths are my aim: Inspiration from poetry as a line by Pablo Neruda twines around a tulip leaf, nature represented by a delicate branch of plum blossom, or a floating burst of brushwork evoking dahlias and the painted languid human form draped around a vase body...to mention a few.Process and Practice
My work is either slipcast and altered or thrown. I paint with slips, underglazes and coloured glazes, using brushes, pens, pencils and chalks. Biscuit firing goes to Cone 04 and I use a semi matt or glossy glaze to finish. Glaze firing is either to cone 05 or Cone 03 with an hours soak in an electric kiln. Some pieces go through a third firing with additions of a little lustre or a low temperature glaze.
