Path and Inspiration
I am from and based in London, and I’ve been making ceramics for 10 years, starting at evening classes in Merton before progressing to shared studio spaces.I am inspired by the form making of british 20th century studio ceramics, and by the huge varieties of colour, tone and texture that can be achieved in pottery through the use of oxides and other natural materials.Process and Practice
My work is thrown, and driven by how it functions. I consider how forms can assist their use, for example how a collared neck can make a vase more comfortable to hold in your hands, and gather the stems of the flowers in a pleasing way.I use slips and stains on body of the clay which I make using oxides, and apply before firing and glazing. I alter the intensity of slips and I scrape them back to create both abstract and figurative patterns.I make vases, lamps, planters, cups and mugs.
