Path and Inspiration
As a relative newbie, I am still exploring my niche, however, I can say with conviction that I am obsessed with black clay. I love free style curves and the absolute opposite of sharp lines. Certain countries give me inspiration. Iceland blew my mind, the landscape and colours are otherwordly. I have also been in love with the colours of Greece for 4 decades, the stunning blues contrasting with brilliant white.Process and Practice
If it is a commission piece, I listen to the client and send a few drawings. I can stick rigidly to producing a replica of the image, but, as with a recent piece, I will send photos if I feel I can take it in another direction that I am getting butterflies about. Otherwise, I draw and store images, take photos of shapes and keep them in the memory banks. I can start a piece and not know where it is going to end up but go with the flow.
