Path and Inspiration

Teaching is my main focus since I like the sharing of ideas: the way it stretches me to try new things. In my own work i seek to make one-off pieces. Recently this involves making plaster moulds of found objects to create textured pieces which I collage together to form wall pieces and human forms. I like the random fitting of pieces of a puzzle together. I enjoy the serendipity of layering stoneware glazes, experimenting with ash, sagger firing and combing melted glass to decorate my work.

Process and Practice

After an international career in Public Relations, Nicola trained as a Ceramic Fine Artist in UK late in life, setting up her ceramic workshop, Longfield Studio in 2004, where she continues to teach and practice pottery and mixed media. I enjoy bringing people together to be creative and passing on skills of using simple tools, and found objects to design, shape and decorate clay.
