Path and Inspiration
I have had no formal training in the arts and up until 2022 was working in finance. For the past 18 years I would describe ceramics as a hobby. In 2023 I decided to pursue ceramics full time. I gained fellowship at Digswell Art Trust, however, this prematurely came to an end as the Trust lost the Fenners studio in Letchworth. I now produce work from my home studio and frequently wood fire my work with fellow DCPG members. My preferences are reduction fired and soda fired functional ware.Process and Practice
I am a potter with a connection to the traditional methods of producing functional ware. I allow the natural characteristics of the clay to be the primary focus of my work, using texture, mark-making and applying glaze in a loose style to amplify the clay body rather than obscure it. There is a clear Asian influence in my ceramics, echoing the authenticity of this ancient, solitary craft and the mediative, mindful practice that facilitates the making process.
